However, Dio's star was destined to rise even higher. Leaving Rainbow was a bold move but it led him to join forces with the legendary Black Sabbath, stepping into the shoes of the incomparable Ozzy Osbourne.
Amidst a mix of skepticism and anticipation, Dio proved his mettle with the creation of the album, Heaven and Hell. His voice, powerful and emotive gave a new dimension to Sabbath sound, and the album became a classic. Offstage, Dio was equally influential. A lesser known fact about him was his unwavering support for charitable causes. One such cause was Children of the Night, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing America's children from the ravages of prostitution.
Ronnie James Dio, a man whose voice and spirit embodied rock, left us on May 16, 2010, but his legacy lives on. As Dio once sang, the world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams, yet, his music continues to inspire us to see and dream.
